To start off my 3rd blog, I wanted to address something that for some people, not all, but some have a hard time doing. Taking that actual first step in doing their training and nutritional programs for themselves. For these people, I myself have come across them and have seen it in their eyes on how scared, unsure and insecure they are about doing this. Either they know they have to do it for their own personal health and wellbeing or finally decided that they wanted and/or needed to lose that extra weight they have on themselves.
In having to come across and train and set diets for clients like this, my heart goes out to them, as I am glad that they finally see it within themselves to take that step to help themselves. They are not sure or understand sometimes about what they are signing up for but they understand they have to do something over the nothing they were doing.
Now when I say “taking that first step is the hardest” I’m saying that in more ways then one. There is the mental and physical way of taking that first step. After sitting down and listening to clients that I have trained that have had to deal with this it something they have expressed to me in similar forms. The mental aspect of these clients just to look within themselves and look within themselves in the mirror and either admit and/or accept that they want or need to make this change in their life. Some have expressed to me that this it’s the hardest thing to do. The other side of this is them actual taking that step and walking through the door literally of the gym itself ready or not they are willing to put themselves out there to better themselves. I have been told this by several of my past clients who have gone through this and this is something they have dealt with personally as it has been a consistent theme among all of them. In seeing and dealing with this as a trainer and nutritionist you have to look at them and reach out towards them in a way that they can relate if you the trainer has not gone through it themselves. Not many might have and that is a great complaint and something in common between the two that will build trust. But the majority will of trainers have been in their shoes so they have to look at it from a professional standpoint and then the some who actually care will show that their heat goes out to them & stand by them every step of the way.
In the broad scope of things when it comes to this subject, a lot of this again and I know I continue to say it is psychology. It’s something plays a huge part in someone deciding or not deciding to take that important step forward to improve their lives in whichever way they need or want it to be. The mental aspect of deciding whether you want to commit yourself to something is more or less 80% of the battle. But I do want people to know that no matter what your goals are when you start a program, it’s worth it. Yes it will get hard, but if it was easy every person laying on the couch eating God knows what & weighing God knows how much will be saying “I can do that. That is a piece of cake!!” They will be saying that while they are eating that piece of cake. This isn’t that. You are better then that and doing a complete program with training and nutrition is a great way to go and get started. Always say to yourself that you can and will do this.
